National Burger Awards

HUBBOX Wins at the NBA Awards 2015

HUBBOX National Burger Awards Winner

We all know how good the burgers are at the Hub and HUBBOX, but on a national level how do we really stack up? Well this month we found out, according to the Casual Dining’s National Burger Awards, we actually are the best!

We sent our Co-Director & Executive Chef Alex Towill up the smoke to enter the live cook-off. Armed only with a golden burger flipper and a bag full of the freshest Cornish ingredients, he entered the competition with the HUBBOX signature burger the Big Kahuna, and only flippin’ won!

If you haven’t tried the Big Kahuna yet, here is what it is made of: a mouth-watering two 4oz burgers with a delicious barbecue sauce, pulled pork, melting swiss cheese and two homemade onion rings stacked on top. This very special bun, served with our homemade pickle, coleslaw and fries, our best-selling burger is available in both our Truro and Exeter restaurants, as well as in The Hub St.Ives.

Having a competition like this is really putting burgers on the map. Once the preserve of fast food chains and greasy spoons, they are now being seen as a serious dining option and for HUBBOX to be considered as a competitor in the casual dining industry is something we are very proud of.

“Our goal is to make Hubbox the number one name in burgers, hot dogs and craft beers in the South West. Winning the National Burger Award is absolutely fantastic!” said Towill, “I can now proudly say we officially serve the best burgers in Britain.”

The Big Kahuna was shortlisted amongst the best 16 burgers in the country earlier this month alongside burgers from independent companies like Wild Game Co., Grillstock Smokehouse and Bare Grills, as well as nationwide chains such as TGI Fridays, Las Iguanas and the Handmade Burger Co.

Celebrity chef guest judges Andy Bates and Lesley Waters were on hand to deliver their expertise as the line up of finalists from across the country battled it out for the title of Britain’s best burger at the Islington Metal Works, in London, before revealing the lucky winners. Giovann Attard from Cafe Football won the technical round, Jon Cox from Wild Game Co. scooped the signature burger award with the Beowulf burger, Alex and HUBBOX were proclaimed overall winners! The National Burger Award organisers said: “The standard of submissions really proved that the quality of burgers served around Britain is something to be proud of.”

Our next challenge will be to keep the title, bring on 2016!
