Team HUBBOX: Ride for Precious Lives 2015 retrospective

Ride For Precious Lives

Team HUBBOX is proud to have completed the 205-mile ride for Children’s Hospices South West!

This year, the event raised £100k for Children’s Hospice South West, which helps to fund the care and support offered to children across the region with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

The ride took the HUBBOX team along with 95 fellow cyclists to each of the three children’s hospices in South West over three days: Little Harbour near St Austell, Little Bridge House near Barnstaple and Charlton Farm near Bristol.

The HUBBOX team had an awesome time on the Ride for Precious Lives earlier this month.

“It was a fantastic experience both on and off the bike, with great spirit from all cyclists”, said Andrew. “It was incredibly humbling, emotional, but hugely satisfying to have completed the ride with so many lovely cyclists for a great cause”, added Tim.

Whilst other members of the team brought a slightly different perspective on the experience, “It was hard work, I don’t think I have ever have been so unprepared for anything in my whole life”, said Hub St Ives Manager Adam whose training programme consisted in a rich diet of burgers and craft beers.”It was very good fun but some of the climbs were challenging, exposing my distinct lack of training!” added Martin.

The team’s worst moments on the three-day ride varied from a snoring roomie for Martin, the never-ending hills for Boonie and Matthew, to attempting to spot the flags for Andrew. Adam’s topped the worst moment on the ride with “having to get in a van for the last 12 miles of the first day’s ride after a sugar come down”. On the other hand, Tim had a whale of a time and couldn’t get enough of it: “Finishing was the worst part, I didn’t want it to end!”.

On the bright side, highlights included: “the 95 riders going through Taunton together” for Matthew, “the sense of freedom on both Bodmin Moor & Exmoor, utterly stunning” for Tim, and “cycling up through Cheddar Gorge” for Martin, Andrew and Stu. Whilst “coming into the finish line with everyone cheering!” was Adam’s highlight.

The boys are definitely up to take on the challenge again next year! “Go bigger and better!” said Stuart.

We have almost reached our Ride for Precious Lives target of £8,000! Please go to our Virgin Money Giving page and pledge whatever you can afford.
